Alan Cummings, Secretary Durham Miner’s Association 12 February 2019:
“On behalf of (the Executive Committee) can I personally thank you Tony for all the work you have put into ensuring the Gala was organized safely for the people attending. It is no mean feat to ensure the day goes safely with over 200,000 people attending over the last few years.
Once again, many thanks and whatever venture you may take on, may it be successful”.
Dave Hopper (General Secretary of the Durham Miners Association 1985 – 2016)
Alan Cummings, Secretary Durham Miner’s Association and Principal Organiser, Durham Miners’ Gala 2016:
I have known Tony Murphy in a personal and professional capacity for over thirty years. In that time he had a varied career as a solicitor dealing with employment law, criminal law and civil litigation. More recently in 2015 at very short notice he was approached by the Durham Miners Association to assist with the delivery of the Durham Miners’ Gala.
This is a large annual event involving liaison with Durham County Council, the Police and Emergency Services and the local Safety Advisory Group. The event involves a parade of bands and banners through Durham, speeches by a number of high profile speakers, the attendance of tens of thousands of people and the presence of many trade stalls as well as fairground rides and amusements. Problems had been encountered with onerous requirements in respect of health and safety issues, licensing, road closures and crowd management. Following the sad and unexpected decease of a previous consultant, assistance in complying with those requirements was not forthcoming. Notwithstanding the short timescale, when approached, Tony set about the task of organising support and assistance through Tony Murphy Consultancy. He provided guidance on best practice, addressed the various issues which had been raised, with officers of the Durham Miners’ Association attended meetings with Durham County Council, the Police, Community Groups and the Safety Advisory Group and, with professional calm and skill, completed the task of preparing and submitting the Event Management Plan to all interested parties in order that the event might be successfully delivered with their approval.
The event turned out to be one of the most successful in living memory and was repeated the following year. Tony has the ability to mix with people from all backgrounds and provide reassurance, advice and support whilst delivering an effective service. He has a lively sense of humour coupled with an appreciation of the necessity for seriousness when required. He is a man of integrity whom I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone needing specialist services, whether in connection with events management, or individual issues of a complex nature.
Sue Smith (Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist) 2016
‘A few years ago decided to expand my business and engaged Tony Murphy. He reviewed my administration and business practices. He advised me about certain compliance issues, and helped me develop an ‘Office Procedure Manual’. This was developed for both management and office staff. The Office Manual helped me to streamline my business practices and engage staff to work more efficiently on specific tasks. Thus allowing me more time to work on my therapy practice including engaging new clients, taking deposits, and a more efficient electronic diary system. I found Tony’s professionalism, willingness to listen, and the new ideas he brought to the management of my business invaluable. Tony is a true professional.’

“I have known Tony Murphy in a professional capacity for more than 30 years. In my opinion he is honest, hardworking and truthful, and his personal integrity is without question
Melanie Burch, Landlady 2015
I have no problem giving Tony Murphy a testimonial as I had a big problem with an adjacent property causing problems for my tenant who was thinking of leaving. The landlord refused to communicate with me, and I was unable to undertake important building renovation work on the building and my property was directly affected. I contacted Mr Anthony Murphy who studied the property deeds, and as a result helped me with correspondence with the landlord, resulting in me being able to gain access and give the workmen permission to do the work required. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
